Getting to the Bristlecones

Left a nice town called Ridgecrest, California, this morning and headed to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.  I hit 395-N and saw a lot of interesting things along the way - before getting to the road to the Bristlecones.

Pretty sunrise over Ridgecrest..

395 is a nice enough road, just somewhat desolate.

Here's a thought - maybe put a fence around the cattle?!!

It's not just jerky - it's REALLY good jerky!

I stopped in this charming shop to see what all the fuss was about with the jerky.  Met some very nice people.

Oh, this must be where they get the "elk jerky" from - just go out and hunt it!

A pretty Joshua Tree on the side of the road.

OH, GOD, I HOPE THIS ISN'T MY HOTEL!

The mountains were pretty.

Much, much, much better than 107-degrees!

I finally reached the road into the Bristlecone Forest.  It was quite challenging - very winding and steep!

Try breathing at this elevation!

Kermie and the Red Cat are happy to be among the Bristlecones - look at Kermie smiling!
